Large-railgun residue material analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Samples of a black powdery residue material which appeared on the rails of a large-scale railgun system were analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. No copper content could be detected in the residue materials associated with nominally sliding contact or arc-driven test shots.
