Gaseous fuel preparation for power plants using a new adsorbent-indicator from solid waste from industrial and energy complex enterprises

Gaseous waste from petrochemical enterprises is an alternative resource-saving raw material for generating electrical and thermal energy. Gaseous waste can be used as fuel only after its preliminary purification, taking into account the multicomponent composition. The requirements for the content of hydrogen sulfide and mercaptan sulfur in the resulting gaseous fuel are especially seriously monitored and standardized. Most often, adsorption purification methods are used to remove sulfur compounds. The paper presents research on the development and laboratory testing of an indicator sorbent. The indicator sorbent is necessary to determine the degree of saturation of the main adsorbent and to capture “slipped through” sulfur compounds. The indicator sorbent is poured in a second layer on top of the main adsorbent and, upon contact with sulfur compounds, changes color from light gray to deep yellow, depending on the quantitative sulfur content.
