Force sensor making use of changes in the maximum induction of an amorphous alloy

A new type of force sensor is introduced which employs the measurement of the change of the maximum induction of a magnetic core derived from the voltage induced in the secondary winding. An external force can be measured periodically at a frequency which is the same as the magnetizing frequency of the core. The force sensor shows a standard deviation of the nonlinearity of less than 0.3% within the range of 0 N to 1.7 N and a resolution of 5*10/sup -4/ N. It can measure transient forces at a sampling rate up to 7.5 kHz.<
