Utilizing PostGIS Extension to Process Spatial Data Stored in Neo4j Database

The development of information technology over time has increased the utilization of spatial data for storing data such as online maps. On the other hand, the need for large amounts of data has led to the emergence of the need for NoSQL Database Management System (DBMS) technology to replace relational databases. One of the NoSQL database paradigms currently used is graph-based databases. Neo4j is a graph DBMS that has limited spatial data processing capabilities. In this paper we developed a SQL interface to perform spatial data retrival using PostGIS extension on a Neo4j graph database. The SQL interface is made up of several modules. Those modules include Preprocessing, Neo4j Utility, Data Retrieval, Rebuild SQL, Wrapper, and Index modules. The SQL interface works by translating input SQL queries into a Cypher query to retrieve data from Neo4j. After data retrieval is done, the data is used to fill in the SQL query for further processing in PostgreSQL. This SQL interface system was developed to complement the spatial operation limitations provided by Neo4j.
