Dynamic load balancing in a distributed system using a sender-initiated algorithm

The authors present an implementation and performance evaluation of load balancing in a locally distributed system. Two sender-initiated algorithms for dynamic load balancing with distributed control are compared. These two algorithms use two different thresholds, respectively, when making decisions for remote processing. These thresholds consider the maximum process queue length and the maximum amount of CPU time of active processes on each host. The proposed algorithms increase system performance through load balancing. The characteristics of the algorithms and their effects on system performance are analyzed and discussed.<
