Sewage Monitoring System for Blockage Point Detection

The wastewater that our society discharges from the sewages includes the discharges from various companies, factories, residences, institutes, organizations etc. A proper management of these sewages is an unavoidable need to have a healthy community. Thus, our sewage management becomes an essential responsibility of the municipal infrastructure. In order to have healthy and systematic sewage management, we need to maintain the drainage system properly. Otherwise, it ends up in urban floods, which is most common in crowded cities. In a metropolitan city the importance of having a well-maintained drainage system is very essential. Proper maintenance in such crowded cities will result in pandemic situations. At present, there is no technology available to check and monitor the water level in sewage. Different types of works are being done to provide a proper management of the underground system by which it could find out the defects and correct them properly. As a step to rectify this problem, a hardware model is designed to monitor the sewage system, which uses devices based on IOT and sensors. The paper proposes a smart device that can detect the exact location of the blockage in the drainage system using an ultrasonic sensor and the overflow of water. It also has an alert system specifying the exact location of the block using GPS sensor and cloud to report it to the municipal authority for further action.
