Optimal read/write width design using BER model and evolutionary algorithm

In high density magnetic recording systems, an optimal nominal design of read width (RW) and write width (WW), for tolerance achievable by the manufacturing processes, is essential for adequate drive level bit error rate (BER) and decent drive yield. Here, we present a method that combines a channel BER model and an evolutionary algorithm for optimization to achieve these design goals.
