Development of a repetitive high coulomb transfer switch

A previously developed switch could discharge a 55-kV, 1-MJ bank with a total charge transfer of 360 C on a single shot basis. This switch used graphite electrodes. The switch was modified so that it could function as a crowbar by inductively coupling the trigger pulse. Based on this design, another switch was built to operate repetitively: the electrodes were cooled, and the hot switch gas was exhausted. This switched the bank, charged to 34 kV once a minute, a rate limited by the power supply.
