LAS-6LE: A Lightweight Authentication Scheme for 6LoWPAN Environments

IPv6 over Low-Power Wireless Personal Area Networks (6LoWPANs) have become an integral part of the Internet of Things. In a 6LoWPAN, the deployed Sensor Nodes (SNs) gather vital information from the surrounding environment and transmit the amassed information to the server. An adversary can capture the un-encrypted information and use the collected information for malicious purposes. Therefore, information security in a 6LoWPAN is imperative. For reliable communication in 6LoWPANs, an authentication scheme is essential to validate SN's authenticity. SNs and server then set up a session key for future encrypted communications. This paper proffers a Lightweight Authentication Scheme for 6LoWPAN Environments (LAS-6LE). LAS-6LE first verifies the legitimacy of data dispatching SNs and then establishes a secret key between the server and SN to achieve information confidentiality. The logical exactitude of LAS-6LE is corroborated through BAN logic. We demonstrate that LAS-6LE consumes fewer resources in a 6LoWPAN environment.
