On the contribution of synchronized measurement technology in power system monitoring

In recent years, introduction of Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) application implies significantly power system control and monitoring mainly aiming to achieve full system observability and real time state estimation which helps in network's dynamics analysis. In this paper, MATLAB/Simulink is used for PMU modelling and studying its operational capabilities. Additionally, due to economic constraints, the Integer Linear Programming (ILP) is proposed to resolve effectively the optimal PMU placement problem as well as performing afterwards the Weighted Least Squares (WLS) method which is basically dedicated for the estimation targets. The simulation results are validated through a 12-bus Tunisian network basically implemented via MATLAB and PSAT simulator.
