On channel capacity enhancement using beam radiation pattern

This paper presents the evaluation of channel capacity for 4 × 4 MIMO system in indoor propagation environment at frequency 3.5 GHz and 2.6 GHz. The effect of an antenna with the beam radiation pattern on the capacity of the channel is shown by comparing the capacity with the dipole antenna as conventional antenna. The channel response in the simulation is modeled using ray tracing method and the matrix response of the capacity is calculated presenting the capacity value and the capacity distribution of the room. Both the ideal radiation pattern generated in simulation and the original beam radiation pattern obtained from the switched beam antenna confirm that the channel capacity can be enhanced using multi-antenna system employing beam-pattern antenna with higher capacity than conventional dipole antenna.
