Effect of L-arginine on the laser damage threshold and SHG efficiency of the KDP crystals

Transparent potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) crystal doped with 0.3-1.4 wt % L-arginine (L-arg) amino acid in the solution was grown onto a point seed by the method of temperature reduction. The doping of the crystal has led to increased polarizability of KDP crystal and raised the efficiency of second harmonic generation by a factor of ~2.5 in the pyramidal growth sector in comparison with the corresponding characteristic of the pure crystal. Was showed that the bulk laser damage threshold of the samples of KDP:L-arg crystal was higher than the one of the pure crystal in the sector {101} and and lower in the sector {100}.
