Possible Application of the 30 to 60 GHz Spectrum Band to Implement IoT Wireless Device Area Networks (WDAN)

This paper discusses possible communicationsrequirements that emerge from the necessity to connectInternet of Things (IoT) devices, and explores thepossible utilization of the 30 to 90 GHz spectrum band(the lower EHF band) to establish Wireless Device AreaNetworks (WDAN) between all the devices that are closeby. While the lower EHF band has already been set as the cannel to create Wireless Personal Area Networks(WPAN), the band is not being used widely for suchpurpose, nor have the corresponding standards beenupdated to the latest technology trends. The EHF band is a very valuable portion of the spectrum that is not being exploited at its best potential, and surely could beconsidered as an alternative to provide emerging IoTdevices with an exclusive channel to establish their own, device to device, direct communications.
