A new protection approach for microgrid based upon combined ANFIS with Symmetrical Components

The reliability and stability of a power system in a microgrid depend to a great extent on the efficiency of the protection scheme. The application of Artificial Intelligence approaches was introduced recently in the protection of distribution networks. The proposed approach uses a combination of Symmetrical Components (SCs) and Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) to solve this problem. Although the function Criterion (C

) and Phase Selection action (PS) is a powerful mathematical tool that can be used as a quick and effective way to analyze the situation accurately and to distinguish between the normal signal, abnormal and transient, the ANFIS has the ability to classify the non-linear relationship between the measured signal, to identify different patterns of related signals. The proposed algorithm consists of time analysis of fault-generated using the Criterion function (C

) and Phase Selection (PS), followed by ANFIS model to identify the fault. MATLAB / Simulink is used to generate a fault signal and to check the correctness of the algorithm. An adaptive scheme of discrimination is verified by simulating various fault types. The simulation results show that the proposed criterion function and phase selection circuit can identify the faulty phase at the microgrid quickly and correctly.
