Thermally stimulated current in elongated polyethylene by gamma radiation

Three thermally stimulated current peaks were found at 35, 45 and 60°C in low density polyethylene film above room temperature, and the experiment on elongated samples showed that the second peak at 45°C was increased for draw ratios up to 200% and decreased for draw ratio over 200%. The temperatures of the three peaks and the heights at 35°C and 60°C were not affected by elongation. One of the possibilities of the increase and decrease of the height of peaks at 45°C may be ascribed to disruption of crystalline lamellae and the melt recrystallization due to elongation as indicated by X-ray long spacing measurements.
