A comparative study of CLR and CLCR as Current Limiters in AC power systems

In AC power systems, to contain short circuit fault currents current limiting devices like; current limiting reactors are employed which not only limit the fault current in the system, relieve stresses on system components as well. In this study, an attempt has been made to weigh techno-commercial aspects of two such devices, namely Current Limiting Reactor (CLR) and Current Limiting Capacitive Reactance (CLCR). The study is supported with desk top experimentation and simulation with PSCAD software. The comparison suggest about optimal use of concepts for specific network configuration, radial/ ring.
