Population inversion gratings: Creation and control with few-cycle non-overlapping optical pulses

We consider theoretically a possibility of creating and control of population inversion gratings in two-level resonant medium coherently interacting with few-cycle light pulses. It is shown that it is possible to create, erase, and modify the spatial period of such gratings.
