Wireless power transfer with Bessel beams

The generation of propagating Bessel beams is typically limited to optical frequencies with bulky experimental setups. Recent work has shown that Bessel beams can be generated at microwave and millimeter wave frequencies using a planar, leaky-wave antenna. In this work, a system comprised of two coupled Bessel beam launchers is presented. By employing a mode-matching technique, a complete solution of the system and its supported modes is obtained. Power transfer between the two launchers under a complex-conjugate impedance match is reported. Additionally, even and odd mode-splitting is discussed in terms of power transfer efficiency. An analysis of the coupled system's even and odd modes of operation show that efficient power transfer is possible. The odd mode is shown to yield higher field confinement and power transfer efficiency.
