Automatic generation control of three-area small hydro system based on fuzzy PID control

The whole country has built a lot of small power plants with the development of micro-grid in recent years. The link between different areas becomes stronger since the development of grid technology. So AGC of linked systems is getting more important. Take linked systems among three small-hydro power plants for instance, a model of the linked system's AGC is built by MATLAB SIMULINK, then FPID algorithm is employed to control the system. By adjusting the controller, frequency deviation and tie-line power deviation of the system are controlled within the allowable range. Comparing the control results of FPID and PID algorithms, The simulation results show that in multi-area systems, under multiple constraints, fuzzy PID control algorithm is superior to conventional PID algorithm in the aspect of frequency stability and control speed. In the face of uncertainties caused by governors and turbines parameters change and loads disturbances, fuzzy PID algorithm can guarantee the control performance, and the result shows good robustness and dynamic performance. The proposed controller demonstrates good tracking and anti-jamming performance characteristics.
