Numerical Study of deposition of energy of Active Denial Weapon in human skin

Active Denial System is a non-lethal electromagnetic weapon radiating high-powered beam of microwave and electromagnetic radiation at distances at human body surface so as to deter enemies or make them disabling. This article introduces a kind of (FD)2TD method appropriate for biological tissues with dispersive properties. This method is used to calculate the interaction between millimeter waves projected by active denial weapon and human skin and study the relation between the frequency of electromagnetic waves and the depth of its penetration. Numerical simulation results show that the energy of millimeter waves at 95GHz is capable of penetrating the skin to the depth of 1/64 inch, but will not penetrate deeper, thus to fulfill the purpose of non-lethal denial.
