Formatting Author Names

Author names in IEEE Xplore are shown in multiple formats. The display name which contains a combination of the longest first name, last name and middle name available for each author is shown with the refinements section of the search results page. On the abstract page and the metadata sections of the search results and table of contents pages, the normalized version of the author name is shown. The normalized version of the author name is a combination of lastname (or surname) and first initial (for example: Smith, K.). Although multiple formats are shown, all variations of the name are captured and associated with a unique author record.

To find a document written by a particular author, try to be as specific as possible to ensure precise results:

To be sure you find all of the articles by that author, you can also search for the reverse format of the name ("lastname firstname" and "firstname lastname"), however IEEE Xplore will search across all identified variations of author names by default.
