Design and construction of marine structure in deep and rough seas

The world's deepest breakwater is now under construction at the mouth of Kamaishi Bay in northeastern Japan, to lessen tsunami's run-up height as well as wind waves and swells. This 1960 m long and 63 m deep composite breakwater is a monumental achievement of Japanese marine construction technology in the last one hundred years. This report summarises key technologies relating to planning, design and construction of this breakwater.
