Summary:A wireless link with PSSS (parallel sequence spread spectrum) is suited to indoor and indoor/outdoor communication and serves as an optional physical layer in the sub-gigahertz IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The procedure is based on the superposition of cyclically shifted binary m-sequences modulated with M-ary PAM and allows a flexible trade-off between data rate, energy efficiency and multipath fading resistance at a low electronic complexity. In this paper it is shown how channel equalization and MIMO is integrated in the PSSS-procedure supporting transmission in a strong ISI-environment. These PSSS variants operate in the time domain and require a relative simple hardware compared to OFDM methods. The basic outline of the method will be given with performance results. Since short range networks are increasingly discussed for universal tasks, it is expected, that the improved performance by equalisation and MIMO widens the range of application of ZigBee and home networks.
