Summary: Research in traffic safety has indicated that active safety systems provide a better service to drivers when they use data about nearby vehicles. For supplying such information inter-vehicle communication is employed. In this paper we propose a distributed communication protocol that allows the vehicles to organize the communication network in a decentralized manner. For information dissemination we use an anonymous context-based broadcast protocol. The receivers determine whether they are the intended destination of sent messages based on knowledge about their local environment. Simulation results indicate that the proposed protocol performs well in terms of communication performance and filtering of the received information.
