IEEE Applications & Practice Call for Papers

IEEE Applications & Practice Magazine is intended to be a source of timely, significant, technically-reviewed articles, application notes, and technical papers for engineering practitioners in all areas of communications technology. Optical Communications Series focuses on current or near-term implementations of optical communications technologies in public and private communications networks The second issue in this series is planned for July 2008.

Submissions for this special issue should provide practical, implementable information that will be useful to engineering practitioners at all levels of experience. Jointly authored papers with end users or service providers are encouraged. Technical papers, tutorials, application notes, and other formats are welcomed in the following general areas:

  • Network planning and engineering, deployment, and physical infrastructure
  • Optical network configuration, operations, control, and management
  • Network reliability, reconfiguration, and restoration
  • Optical transport and switching

Topics of particular interest include:

Optical Networks

  • Optical Control Plane, OTN, and GMPLS implementations
  • Management, security, signaling and routing protocols
  • Test beds, evolution from legacy environments

Network Evolution and Convergence

  • Access PON, GPON, ROADM, FTTx networks
  • Next generation MSPP/SONET/DCS networks
  • Convergence of Optical/TDM layers, Packet/Ethernet layers

Services

  • Dynamic bandwidth and wavelength services
  • IPTV and Triple Play networks

Product Qualification and Testing

  • Field measurements for PONs and for high-speed transmission
  • Analysis of field failures, component performance and reliability
  • Field trials of optical communications products

Ongoing submissions on optical communications topics are also encouraged for future issues of IEEE Applications & Practice.
